⦁ It is a novel technique for reduction of symptoms of hyperthyroidism (excessive secretion of TSH) and/or size reduction of enlarged thyroid gland. ⦁ It involves blockage of blood supply to thyroid gland so it reduces its function and size.
How it performed:
⦁ This procedure is performed under local anesthesia with very small hole (less than 2 mm) within blood vessel. ⦁ Selective blockage of blood supply of thyroid gland is done with embolizing agent. ⦁ It causes immediate cessation of its function and more than 70-80% size reduction in 3 months
What are benefits:
⦁ It is minimally invasive and day care procedure. ⦁ It is safer and effective. No stitches or scar mark.
Preparation for procedure:
⦁ Few basic blood investigations like CBC, PT/INR, viral markers. ⦁ Bring all the records including imaging record. ⦁ Signing consent form.
What are risks:
⦁ Very rare, non-target embolization(<1 case in 1000).
